Mahasamadhi Commemoration Services, Saturday, March 7 and Monday, March 9

On Saturday, March 7, we will hold a mahasamadhi commemoration service for our beloved Guru, Paramahansa Yogananda. Please note the earlier weekend start time of 7:00 PM. On Monday, March 9, we will hold a mahasamadhi commemoration service for our paramguru, Swami Sri Yukteswar. The the service will begin at 8 pm.

Centennial Open House & Guided Meditation, Sunday, March 1

Please join us for a special Open House celebrating the 100 year anniversary of Paramahansa Yogananda coming to America and founding Self-Realization Fellowship. Yogananda is the author of the modern spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi. We invite everyone–friends, family, and those with new interest–to come and experience a 30-minute guided meditation for newcomers at 11:00 am. Seating will begin at 10:45 am. Following the Guided Meditation, we welcome you to visit our Book Room, Sunday School and enjoy light refreshments and informal fellowship with others interested in the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda.

Irving Museum Presentation on Yogananda, Saturday, February 29

As part of a series of Indian cultural events sponsored by ThinkIndia Foundation, our DFW Meditation Group will present a special one-hour program with an introduction to Paramahansa Yogananda followed by a Guided Meditation and chanting. This event will be held at the Irving Archives and Museum, 801 W. Irving Blvd., from 2:30-3:30 pm and is open to the public. Everyone is invited.

Wednesday January 1 Service Cancelled

Due to the New Year’s Day holiday, there will be no Wednesday night midweek service on January 1. We wish everyone a Happy New Year.

New Year’s Eve Meditation

Join us New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, December 31, for our annual New Year’s Eve Meditation Service from 7pm-10pm. All are invited to attend. You may enter and leave on the hour.

All-Day Christmas Meditation, Saturday December 14, 10:00 am

Join us on Saturday, December 14, for the custom established by Paramahansa Yogananda of devoting an entire day united in spiritual effort and in deepening communion with God and Christ. Many Self-Realization Fellowship devotees have come to regard the All-Day Christmas Meditation as the most important event of the year. Thanksgiving Pot Luck Social, Sunday, November 24

Please join us on Sunday, November 24, for our annual Thanksgiving Social. Everyone is welcome. Please bring a potluck dish of one of the following: green beans, mashed potatoes or other potato dish, green salad, cranberry or other fruit dish. Tofu turkey with vegetarian gravy, and drinks will be provided! We heartily invite you and your family to join us for our annual tradition of giving thanks for our many blessings.

All-Day Fall Retreat at Lake Texoma

On Saturday, October 19th, we will hold our Spring All-Day Retreat from 10am to 5pm at the home of Lynn Meyer overlooking Lake Texoma. SRF World Convocation August 4-10 Livestreaming Events

Each year thousands of SRF members from around the world gather in Los Angeles for a profoundly inspiring week of spiritual renewal and fellowship as we immerse ourselves in the teachings of our guru, Paramahansa Yogananda. For the many unable to attend, livestreaming of select events now provides the wonderful opportunity to experience the joy, wisdom, and fellowship of Convocation with SRF members and friends around the world who will be tuning in for these events. On Saturday, July 13, a special Guru Purnima service honoring our guru, Paramahansa Yogananada, will be held from 9am to Noon in place of the regular Saturday Meditation format. The service will feature recordings about Master, the guru-disciple relationship, and Indian-led chanting. All are welcome. If you are unable to attend from the beginning, please enter the chapel only during a chant. Guided Meditation, Saturday May 4, 9am-Noon

Guided Meditations offer a unique opportunity for the benefits of long meditation in a group setting which strengthens the vibrations for all participants. Guided Meditations inspire many to perform the techniques more faithfully and with deeper concentration, and we encourage everyone if at all possible to attend all three hours to receive the most benefits. No details of the techniques can be given by the service leader, but you can learn the techniques of meditation taught by Paramahansa Yogananda by subscribing to the SRF Lessons.

Good Friday Service, April 19, 6pm to 9pm

This service will have a reading at the beginning of each hour before meditation. It is a progressive reading taken from the Second Coming of Christ. Attending all three hours will maximize the impact of the spiritual message of Jesus with his disciples at the Last Supper.

Spring Celebration Social, Sunday, March 7

We will have a special vegetarian food and cake social in celebration of the gift of everyone’s  service to our group and the worldwide spiritual work of SRF. Everyone is invited as our group’s way of collectively saying Thank You for your contribution via your meditation, donations, volunteer service, and overall support of our group and Master’s work. Food, cake and drinks will be provided. Everyone is invited to attend.

Awake: The Life of Yogananda, Sunday May 20, 3 pm

On Sunday, May 20th, there will be a free showing of the feature film, Awake: The Life of Yogananda, at the Allen Public Library at 3 pm. The film is an unconventional biography about the life and global influence of Paramahansa Yogananda. Using a seamless mix of re-creations and fascinating true footage, this very even-tempered documentary takes its audience through the life of Yogananda. The film spans Yogananda’s first sensations in the womb to the night he consciously exited his body before a large crowd at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles in 1952 and how, in between those events, he changed the Western world.

Lecture and Guided Meditation on the Kriya Yoga Teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda. Wednesday, April 11, 2018. 7:00 pm at Unity of Dallas on Forest Lane.

This Spring on Wednesday, April 11, Brother Bhumananda from the SRF Headquarters in Los Angeles will give a public talk on the Kriya Yoga Teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda. The talk will be at the Unity of Dallas auditorium on Forest Lane in Dallas at 7:00 pm. The Lecture is free, open to the public, and all are welcome to attend. On Saturday, September 1, we will hold a Meditation, Kirtan and Potluck Social.

The day’s schedule is as follows:
9:00 AM – 10:30 AM. Meditation with Prayer Service
10:30 AM – 12:00 PM Kirtan (Devotional Chanting)
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM. Potluck Social

All are welcome to attend any or all of the above events. Our usual entry-exit guidelines apply during Meditation and Kirtan. You can enter or exit the chapel during a chant. Please do join us even if you are not able to bring a dish. There is always plenty of great tasting food. Spiritual fellowship is the main goal of the Potluck Social.

SRF Monastics to Visit DFW Chapel Thursday Evening, Oct. 26

On Thursday Evening, October 26, Brother Devananda and Brahmachari Andy from the SRF Mother Center in Los Angeles will visit to dedicate the new altar at our DFW Chapel. Blessing of the new altar will begin at 6:30 pm. There will be a meditation and satsanga (informal talk) at 7:00 pm followed by light refreshments at 8:30. All are welcome to attend this very special evening with the monastics.

Sunday School Play, Sunday April 30

After services on Sunday, April 30, our Sunday School children will perform a play for the entire meditation group. The play is from Master’s story, Two Frogs in Trouble. Light refreshments will be served after the play.

SRF Youth Services will be conducting a one-day Regional Day Programs for boys at Lake Texoma on Saturday, October 15. Programs will be for boys ages 7-12 and teens 13-18.

Brahmacharini Angelina and Brahmacharini Emily of Self-Realization Fellowship, who will lead the SRF Regional Day Program for Girls at Lake Texoma on Saturday, will be leading our services and Sunday School at the Irving Chapel on Sunday, October 9th. Despite numerous visits by SRF monks, this will be the first time SRF nuns have visited Dallas-Fort Worth since our group began in 1972. Services will be followed by a Catered Social and Satsanga.

SRF Youth Services will be conducting two one-day Regional Day Programs near Dallas, Texas, for children 7-12 and teens 13-18. The Girls Program is Saturday, October 8. The Boys Program is Saturday, October 15.

June 19th marks the second annual “International Day of Yoga” inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India and instituted by the United Nations. Widely recognized as the father of yoga in the West, Paramahansa Yogananda introduced millions of seekers to India’s ancient Yoga science. In a 2015 article, DaijiWorld, an online news portal, wrote : “If India’s idea of an International Yoga Day has found easy acceptance in the UN, much of the credit must go to Paramahansa Yogananda, India’s first yoga guru in the U.S…He played a huge role in laying the foundation for yoga in the United States a century ago.”

The DFW Meditation Group will be having a Center Department Visit the weekend of May 27-29, 2016. All are invited to a workshop on Saturday that will focus on group activities. The two Brahmacharis that are visiting us are Br. Wolfgang and Br. Lynn. They will arrive on Thursday, May 26 and activities will begin on Friday, May 27th. Please join us for this weekend of fellowship with inspirational services and a workshop. The monastics will be giving our Sunday services on Sunday, May 29th. Kirtan Chanting & Pot-Luck Social, Saturday February 13, 6:00 pm

Join us for an hour of uplifting devotional chanting led by our DFW Kirtan Group. Paramahansa Yogananda taught that when one is immersed in the bliss of devotional chanting, joy is the first perception of God. The Kirtan will be followed by a Pot-Luck dinner and fellowship. Everyone is asked to bring a vegetarian dish. All are welcome and encouraged to bring friends and family.

International Day of Yoga, June 21

The first ever United Nations-sanctioned International Day of Yoga will take place on June 21, 2015. Join us for an hour of uplifting devotional chanting led by our DFW Kirtan Group. Yogananda taught that when one is immersed in the bliss of devotional chanting, joy is the first perception of God. The Kirtan will be followed by a Pot-Luck dinner and fellowship. We ask everyone to bring a vegetarian dish. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to bring friends and family.

All-Day Spring Retreat at Lake Texoma, May 16

The new feature film AWAKE: The Life of Yogananda, will make its Dallas debut at the historic Texas Theater in Oak Cliff on the first weekend in November. Screenings of the film, an unconventional biography about the life and global influence of Paramahansa Yogananda, will be held on Saturday, November 1st and Sunday, November 2. On Saturday evening, September 20, we will hold a Farewell Social in honor of Siva, Shoba, and Shyam who have long served Master’s work here and will be relocating to Northern California. There will be a meditation beginning at 5:00 pm followed by catered food from India Palace at 5:30. All are welcome to attend!

Austin Monastics Visit, Friday April 11 – Sunday April 13 

The second weekend in April, Brother Ritananda and Brahmachari Andy from the SRF Mother Center will visit Austin. Activities will include Meditations, a Group Introspection Workshop, a Satsanga and more. Members from the Dallas-Ft. Worth Meditation Group are welcome to attend. Dharma and Yoga Fest, September 28

As part of nationwide events commemorating the 150th birth of Swami Vivekananda, Self-Realization Fellowship is participating in the Dharma and Yoga Fest 2013 in major U. S. cities, including Los Angeles. On Saturday, September 28, the DFW Meditation Group will participate in the Dharma and Yoga Fest Dallas at the DFW Hindu Temple, 1605 N. Britain Rd. in Irving a few blocks down the street from the DFW Meditation Group Center. Cultural events and presentations on different branches of yoga will be held from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. As part of the Raja Yoga track from 3 to 5, the DFW Meditation Group will conduct a Guided Meditation from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Meditation Hall. As a courtesy to the organizers and attendees to keep from disrupting other Raja Yoga presentations, we encourage you to attend the entire Raja Yoga track beginning at 3 p.m. We also heartily encourage you to stay after the Yoga tracks for interesting and colorful cultural events, including:

  • Great classical Indian Dance & Music performance by expert groups
  • Skits on Swami Vivekananda
  • Krishna Leela
  • Keynote Speeches
  • Grand Finale!
